Empowerment from Bean to Cup
Our Supply Chain
Business Done the Right Way
We believe that great taste and great ethics shouldn't have to be exclusive. That's why we're proud to provide full visibility of our supply chain here on our website and on every pack of Gorkha Speciality Coffee we produce.

Gorkha Coffee Empowers People
Regular Coffee Powers People
Supply chain is long and opaque, with many intermediaries, each taking a considerable share of profit.
Farmers are paid last, often with delayed and unethical payment terms.
Low wages received keep farmers in a vicious cycle and a precarious situation, without additional funds to invest in growth of their farm.
We own and/or fully oversee every element of our supply chain and take full accountability for honest business practices.
Farmers are paid upfront for their beans. They receive an ethical wage as well as profit share from the cooperative.
Fair wages plus support and training from locally-run cooperatives empower farmers to grow their knowledge, their income, and their farm.
The Gorkha Coffee Story
At Gorkha Coffee, farmers come first. Their story is our story, and we are proud to show it to you, all the way from bean to cup. The photos shown below are of farmers and employees from our Peepalbot Cooperative, and are used here with permission from the cooperative.

1. Part of a Community
A local Gorkha coffee farmer joins Peepalbot Cooperative, run by local Gorkha people, for the opportunity to earn a fair wage and develop their skills to increase their farm's income in the long run.

2. Knowledge is Power
They receive training from Peepalbot Cooperative on farming best practices (crop maintenance, disease control, harvesting, processing for maximum quality, financial management)

3. Tools for the Job
They receive access to agricultural tools and technical support from agronomy experts where this is required.
4. Opportunities to Grow
They tend existing coffee plants and have the option to buy more coffee plants at a fair price from the Cooperative's wholly-owned nursery.

5. Fair Wages
Peepalbot Cooperative collects coffee beans, selling them to Fresco Himalaya, the associated registered company. Payment goes directly to the farmer, and any profits made by the cooperative is also shared fairly with farmers.

6. A Premium Product
Fresco Himalaya manages the roasting and packaging of the beans with the Gorkha Coffee brand. Currently, roasting and packaging are completed by local suppliers, but long-term the ambition to purchase a roastery to bring the full process in-house.

7. Cycles of Empowerment
Fresco Himalaya then sells its Gorkha Coffee to Cocina Mitho Chha for use in their restaurant / cafe and barista training school.
8. Taste for Yourself
Gorkha Coffee is also available to buy from several cafes and businesses in Kathmandu, and will soon be available to buy online.
Our Farmer-First Cooperatives
In additional to our Gorkha-based Peepalbot Cooperative, we proudly partner with two additional Himalyan cooperatives. We collaborate closely with these partners, to ensure they embody our values in their work, and that resources and knowledge are distributed fairly.
To produce our Gorkha Speciality Coffee, Fresco Himalaya purchase 100% organic Arabica beans from all three cooperatives. To see where your Gorkha Speciality Coffee has come from, look for the logo and label on each pack.
